What a joy, at last a site that really understands people like me who do not have the time to wander through the internet, and need up-to-date information quickly and easily. veniceXplorer.net is the site to visit if you are thinking of a trip to Venice. It is excellent, answered all my questions about flight times and hotel availability, and allowed me to book my hotel accommodation. I was also able to find out what was on at the theatres, and other current events in the Venice calendar. We are returning for Carnival, and plan to usehotels-in-venice.info , the veniceXplorer.net hotel portal, to book our accommodation for that holiday.veniceXplorer.net also provides a marvellousdownloadable map.As with the other information provided by the site, it is available in eight languages, including Mandarin and Japanese. The map is extremely accurate and comprehensive, and shows the smallest, most obscure streets, as well as the main thoroughfares. Before leaving I used it to pinpoint the area I wanted to be in Venice, and to choose our hotel there. It also allowed me to check where the nearest chemist was, and their opening hours. It seems that it might be possible to transfer the whole interactive map on PDA anduse it to navigate our way around the magical city! The map is also interactive. You can pinpoint your hotel on the map and then, say, a particular museum; this enables you to see how far away it is, and if you need to use the vaporetto, or water bus. The vaporetto timetable can then be checked to find the route numbers to use, how often they run, and the closest departure and arrival stops for a particular location or attraction. All this by simply clicking the ‘Near Search’ link from the map.I do not believe that this site can be beaten, for everything that you can possibly think of can be researched and booked before you arrive. It is run by Venetians, who are extremely knowledgeable about the city’s history and culture. They update the site daily with new events in Venice and news about its current affairs. So we were able to plan our trip before we arrived. I can thoroughly recommend using this site for either a long weekend break or a longer holiday. It takes care of all the unknowns simply; booking hotel, pension and accommodation; restaurants, theatre programmesand other cultural information you might need are as well available. What more can one ask?
