Chiesa Santa Chiara Church | |

English text Next time you’ll have occasion to pass by busboat along the Scomenzera Canal, coming from Piazzale Roma towards Giudecca’s Canal, right after the highway bridge, on your left you can see the marble facade of the Church of Santa Chiara. It is between the motorway bridge and the more famous brikwork Church of Sant’Andrea. Santa Chiara stands a little set back from the homonymous Fondamenta, which is another good point of view, that you can reach by foot, to observe the damage. So passing by the Church, rise your eyes to the triangular pediment of the facade. The right angle was crumbled away from the sulphuric and nitric disgregation. It is not a fresh event, evaluating from the color of the fracture it could date from some few years ago, but it is for sure still ignored by the majority of the Venetians. And yet Santa Chiara was one of the places of the Perpetual Exposition of the Holy Sacrament, as stated by a plaque affixed on top of the steps leading from Piazzale Roma to the Fondamenta below. Now instead of that plaque we can read the vulgar advertising of an Hotel. Venetians, you've abandoned the Faith of the Fathers, and their evidences of greatness are abandoning us at a stray dog destiny.
